Oshkosh 2004

Home

Oshkosh this year was pretty sweet. Cameron and I went for four days! Flew in Wednesday, left Sunday. Saw lot's of cool planes, bought lots of cool things.

Our panel is finalised pretty much now with the purchase of a Mid-Continent turn coordinator for back up gyro, and the Proprietary Systems Angle of Attack Pro. All I need to do is get this stuff in the panel! I bought a bunch of hardware, some electrical bits and pieces, yet another set of wire strippers to do 12 and 14 gauge wires, and a few other small tools. I also bought a book on the Beech 18... I had to really. I fell in love with them after seeing them up close at Osh. Wow.

We met Stein Bruch of SteinAir fame, and picked up an order, bought MORE stuff and got our free hats and T-shirts! Thanks Stein! I stopped by and spoke to Greg at Blue Mountian about my E1. Fortunately for me, these guys are wizards, and can fix anything!

We attended the Superior XP360 seminar, and gleaned a wealth of info. Looks like this is going to be the engine of choice for us. I would've ordered there and then, but they recommended waiting until around 3 months before flying. This will be tough to do, but not out of the realms of possibility. I have a couple of RV-s around me to look at for dimensional items. You really need the engine though for some items like the cowl, baffles, plumbing and control cables!

We saw the aftermath of an unfortunate incident involving a couple of aircraft. Alledgedly, one groundlooped while taxiing, and the prop chewed the wing up of a parked aeroplane. My condolences to whoever it was that had his wing shredded. When you're around this many planes, utmost care is called for! I dread to think how many billions of dollars in aircraft were parked at Osh this year!

Anyways, some pictures... Speak for themselves mostly. Not many RV's really, but a couple!

A really gorgeous classic... A Howard DGA 15. Got my attention. This one was very pretty...

And a whole row of them....

A P-51 at sunset... I wasn't sure how these would turn out with my point and shoot digital camera, but they weren't too bad... A tripod would've been nice.

Same type of picture, different aeroplane... Another P-51. My all time favourite plane.

A Beech 18. This one was a previous Oshkosh Grand Champion. Man, this plane was spotless.

Another really nice Beech 18.... Maybe one day, we'll sell the RV for one of these babies!

An RV with a very well executed paint job. This whole plane was fantastic. Workmanship was just awesome. No stickers on this one, EVERYTHING was painted.
