Oshkosh 2005

Home

Oshkosh this year was pretty expensive! Well, I didn't take any pictures of RV's. I was preoccupied with other stuff this trip. Mainly a propeller, but the other one was the B-17 ride. All I can say is WOW! It was definitely the highlight of all my aviation experiances, apart from when I first solo'd and when I passed my checkride.

Here are some pictures of the experience. I'd recommend doing this to EVERYONE who even has a remote interest in flying. If this doesn't get you hooked, nothing will!

This is the B-17 "Fuddy Duddy". What a gorgeous aeroplane.

This was the view from the radio operators seat, which was mine for take off and landing. Once we were up in the air, we were free to roam around.

A view of the pilots from the rear. This aeroplane is amazing!

A view of the pilots from the front! This was sweet!

A view out of the nose. The optics of the glass nose are not that great. There is only a small pane of glass at the bottom for the bombardier to see through proper. This is the best position. The view here is nothing short of breathtaking. The thing inthe foreground is a Norden bombsight.

Here's another from the nose. You might be able to see Oshkosh there in the distance.

Here's a shot of the tail from the gun turret.

If you want to ride one, book it at www.b17.org it's worth every penny!

We visited Aeroshell square of course to see White Knight and Spaceship One. Here's Mike Melville with armed security!

And, one of my favourites... The business end of an A-10. Brutal.
