The Build

The whole build log, stage by stage, in the order we did it (more or less: a lot of this overlapped). Each stage is split into parts, and every part is a diary of dated entries with the hours spent and plenty of photos. Use Next → at the bottom of any page to read straight through.

Starting Out

How we ended up this deep in aeroplane parts!

Empennage

Feb 2002 – Jul 2005 · 6 entries · 22 hours logged

The first part of the kit. If this is your first time building, this is the steepest part of the learning curve!

Fuselage

May 2004 – May 2006 · 51 entries · 241 hours logged

We ordered a quickbuild kit (although we went rather slowly), and decided to do the fuselage before the wings. I kept adding more and more fuselage pages!

Wings

Jan 2006 – Aug 2006 · 29 entries · 185 hours logged

From the wings sitting on Mike's rack gathering dust, to on for good, with lights, AOA, wingtips and antennae.

Finish Kit

Oct 2004 – Mar 2006 · 32 entries · 213 hours logged

Woo hoo! It's here! The canopy (blasted canopy frame!), and waiting for a propeller so the cowling could be done.

Instrument Panel

Aug 2004 – Feb 2006 · 32 entries · 104 hours logged

So, this is where all the money went?! Panel labelling done with Pulsar transfers.

EFIS

Jun 2004 – Aug 2006 · 17 entries · 55 hours logged

Our Blue Mountain EFIS/1. Money? Now we're talkin'!

Electrical

Mar 2004 – May 2006 · 36 entries · 180 hours logged

This stuff adds up fast doesn't it?! Wiring, and troubleshooting some electrical gremlins.

FADEC

Feb 2005 – Aug 2006 · 19 entries · 78 hours logged

We used Aerosance FADEC for engine control. We figured it would pay for itself eventually!

Firewall Forward

Aug 2004 – May 2006 · 58 entries · 278 hours logged

Engine, prop, exhaust and those darn baffles. STILL working on the baffles! Aaaaaargh!

First Engine Start

May 27, 2006 – May 28, 2006 · 27 hours logged

What we had to do to get her running for the first time. And of course the actual run!

Wrap Up Work

Aug 2006 – Apr 2007 · 44 entries · 253 hours logged

All the little things that need to be done to get this puppy finished. Some call it the last 90%.
