Kawasaki ZX-7 Build

December 13, 2020

I took a quick look inside the engine just to make sure everything was good, and it seemed pretty nice. I removed the cam cover to check the cams: there was no debris, and the oil was still nice and clean. So I figured I’d go right ahead and start putting the bike together.

I did change some of the oil seals, because I wanted to make sure they didn’t leak. Seals have a habit of drying up and going hard when they’ve been sitting for years, so I thought fresh seals were a good idea to prevent any of that in the future. I also fitted a new starter motor drive belt, because the old one was a little worn. It took a while to source, but ultimately I managed to find one that would fit.

Here you can see the frame. I cleaned everything up to make it nice, and I vapour blasted the cam cover to make it look like new again.

I installed the engine into the frame. It’s actually easier to do it this way, because you can basically lower the frame onto the engine and push all the bolts through.
